Carianne Older

Carianne Older, more notably known as Peggy, is an LA-based artist who channels her creative energy through photography. A graduate of Marymount Manhattan College on, Peggy has built the foundations of her knowledge in the performing arts through a BA in Theatre Arts and Production/Management. Before building her skill as a self-taught photographer, she has managed two Broadway theaters during her time working and living in this industry in New York City. She’s also contributed to representations of social culture in California whether it be in the backgrounds of skating culture all the way to representations of celebrity life and the film/performing arts industry.

Hey Carianne, welcome to Apricot Talk. Can you tell us about your first interests in art and photography?

I’ve been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. I’ve been in front of the camera since I was a kid, I modeled when I was little and got back into it when I started college. I always enjoyed being in front of or behind the camera.

What is integral to your work?

I think the fact that I’m a female film photographer is pretty rare. I strictly shoot film – I think that says something for itself.

Who or what influenced the development of your style?

David Lynch is a huge inspiration of mine! I feel I constantly am saying this everywhere, but Twin Peaks heavily influences my work. I’m also super inspired by the 70’s-90’s. Film kinda transports you back in time. I love that about shooting film.

What was a memorable moment in your creative journey?

A memorable moment was making a gaggle of my favorite photographers become my models for Polaroid’s upcoming summer film launch. I absolutely love having people who usually aren’t in front of the camera twist around and become the models.
